WHAT A YEAR!
Dear Friends:
It’s been an exciting year for Dignity Period. In less than 12 months since our founding, we have already enjoyed significant accomplishments with our partners in Ethiopia. These include:
- Distributing pads: We are planning a pilot project to distribute menstrual pads to girls in 15 schools in Tigray. We also plan to provide pads to all female students at Mekelle University, most of whom are first-time college students from poor rural areas. We hope to reach up to 50,000 girls and women in 2016.
- Getting smart: We’re conducting a research project in Tigray to better understand attitudes towards periods and menstrual hygiene. This includes surveying 400+ households, holding focus groups, and examining how menstruation impacts school attendance.
- Building support: Dignity Period is proud to celebrate one of our first grant partnerships with Ethiopiaid. With our partner Mekelle University we were awarded £10,000 ($15,000+) towards the distribution of dignity packs for girls in the Tigray region of Ethiopia.
All of this work is made possible by the tremendous generosity of donors like you! People from 18 states, plus the UK and Australia, have come together to support Dignity Period’s mission to keep Ethiopian girls in school by providing quality menstrual hygiene products and education. We want dignity for girls – period. Join us!
Sincerely,
The Dignity Period Team
