Dignity Period reached an exciting milestone last week – our first Spring Gala!
Our compassionate and committed supporters gathered at the beautiful Missouri Botanical Garden to learn about how they can make a difference in the lives of girls in Ethiopia.
Thanks to their generosity, we raised more than $50,000. These funds will enable us to provide sanitary pads to girls in school, research cultural beliefs and social attitudes around menstruation in rural Ethiopia, and develop interventions based on this research to improve the lives of menstruating girls and women.
Numerous individuals contributed their talent and time to the special evening.
Carol Daniel, KMOX news anchor, brought her signature style and enthusiasm as the host of our program.
Moving speeches by Freweini Mebrahtu and Dr. Kindeya Gebrehiwot, president of Mekelle University, brought to life the challenges that girls face when shame, embarrassment and lack of access to sanitary pads force them to miss out on educational opportunities.
The venerable Dr. Lewis Wall spoke about his journey as the co-founder of Dignity Period – along with his wife Helen Wall, and Mike and Lynn Coatney – and his vision for the future of the organization.
Thank you to all of the committee members, volunteers, and supporters who made the Spring Gala a success.
